Biography
Stefan Spirk is Professor at Graz University of Technology and co-founder of the energy-storage spin-off Ecolyte GmbH. His research explores how lignocellulosic materials can move beyond their traditional uses in paper and packaging and become functional materials for emerging technologies.
His work spans cellulose and lignin, paper-based functional materials, with a strong focus on water and energy applications. A central theme is combining renewable raw materials with scalable manufacturing technologies to develop more sustainable electrochemical devices.
He has published more than 150 scientific papers and coordinates and participates in several European projects at the intersection of bio-based materials, electrochemistry, and sustainable energy storage. He is also CEO and cofounder of the spinoff Ecolyte, working on stationary energy storage.
